What Did Meta Connect Tell Us About Meta’s VR Journey?
It's been a year since Mark Zuckerberg announced the mother of all pivots: Facebook was to become Meta. Zuckerberg was pointing the world’s largest social network in a new direction. One that would take them to the Metaverse (wherever that is).
On October 11th this year, Zuckerberg hosted Meta Connect. This is their annual event dedicated to the company’s latest releases in Augmented and Virtual Reality.
It’s a show and tell for Zuckerberg and the engineers at Meta to tell anyone who’s watching, what they’re up to, how they’re doing, and, most importantly, what's coming next.
The Good News: Meta made some promising announcements across its most important VR use cases, which I’ve grouped into four categories;
1. Social Experiences:
Meta called out a big shift in user behaviour. They’re now saying that a year ago, users were experiencing the Metaverse on their own. Now they are playing together.
The Metaverse is becoming much more social (which is exactly what Zuckerberg wants to hear!). Friends are meeting up in the Metaverse and spending time, socialising with their buddies.
